Canberra Volunteers Day

Tuesday, 26 May 2008

On Sunday, 18th May 2008, Rivers Unit members James Goodwin and Mary Haggerty were the ACT State Emergency Service (SES) representatives at the Canberra Volunteers Day expo at Hotel Realm in Kingston.  Mary and James talked to a variety of people about life as a volunteer member of the ACT State Emergency Service and they also got to experience a taste of what other volunteer services are available.

CVD, which was organised by Volunteering ACT, was opened by ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope, and its aim was to showcase the many types of volunteering undertaken in the ACT, including the emergency services.  It is interesting to note that there are more volunteers in the ACT per capita than any other place in Australia.
