NSW State Medals for Rivers Unit Members

Wednesday, 25 June 2008

Tonight, 88 SES volunteers, including 10 from Rivers Unit, were formally recognised for their contribution to the Hunter Valley/ Newcastle disaster response.

Rivers sent members on all 5 ACTSES task force rotations and assisted with tasks ranging from evacuation of residents to chain sawing trees to sandbagging the Maitland Railway Station to repairing roofs.

It was a long campaign, but  all of the Rivers members involved did a fantastic job and represented the ACT well.  There were many Hunter Valley and Newcastle residents who were very happy to be assisted by SES volunteers from a place as far away as the ACT.
