Today, as part of International Volunteers Day,
the ACT Emergency Services Minister issued a
Media Release (http://www.esa.act.gov.au/ESAWebsite/content_esa/home_page/071205volunteers.pdf)
thanking all emergency services volunteers in
the ACT for their efforts.
Late
this afternoon, the ACTSES Deputy Chief Officer,
Tony Graham, sent out an e-mail to all Unit
Commanders on behalf of the ACTSES Chief Officer
, Brian Perry, with the following message:
“Today marks International Volunteer Day. This
day of recognition is held around the world on
the 5th December each year as a way to formally
recognise the outstanding work undertaken by
volunteers, regardless of the activity, agency
or service that they volunteer with.
It is fitting that the ACTSES volunteers are
recognised on such an important day and I would
like to pass on the thanks of Chief Officer,
Brian Parry, the staff of the ACTSES and the
community of the ACT for all the operational,
community support and public education
activities that you have been involved with over
the past year. The time and effort that all
volunteers put in to supporting their community
is nothing short of extraordinary.”
To date, Rivers Unit has contributed over 1870
hours to emergency operations alone in 2007 in
both the ACT and NSW. Then of course, on top of
that, there have been an incalculable number of
hours also put in by Rivers members for an
exhaustive number of training activities,
community events, administration and management
activities and for other special events.
