Torrential Downpour Finally Hits Canberra

Saturday, 1 December 2007

After 2 weeks of dangerous storm activity occurring in New South Wales (NSW) that also threatened Canberra, last night the heavens finally opened up over the drought-ridden capital, causing flooding in homes, businesses and the streets around our central and northern suburbs.  The storm dropped over Weston Creek and moved north-east.

A team from Rivers Unit responded to three Requests For Assistance (RFA), with the last job – an extensive flooding job at a commercial premises in Weston, taking approximately 4 and a half hours to complete. After starting just before 8pm, the Unit was closed down at 3am this morning.

This latest storm and water damage (SWD) operation, brings the total operational hours for Rivers Unit for 2001 up to just over 1871 hours.
