The Sinking of Noah's Ark

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

This afternoon, Rivers Unit was called out to deal with flooding that resulted from a water main being inadvertently struck at the construction next door. The name of the establishment where flooding occurred was the Noah’s Ark Childcare Resource Centre. Isn’t that ironic - don’t you think? Luckily the place is okay!

As we arrived on scene in the Noah’s Ark car park, the ACT Fire Brigade pumper and the police vehicle that had been there suddenly disappeared and we were left to it. Our flooding job (that seemed to massive from initial reports) was fairly short-lived however, as the ACTEW crew that was there cleared a couple of sumps and the water rapidly began to drain away. Somebody may have pulled the plug fairly quickly (which was great news for the Childcare Centre), but at least we got two minutes of pumping in before the water was all but gone, leaving nought but a muddy film on the ground.

What can I say? Another day, another dollar.... What do you mean that we don’t get paid?! Ah well, at least we were there when they needed us and ready to do whatever needed to be done.
