Last weekend, the Majura SES Unit disaster rescue team, as the team representing the ACT in the 2009 National Disaster Rescue Competition
(NDRC), came 3rd in a competition of which won the ACT Disaster Rescue Competition, which is the highest ranked an ACT team has ever come and effective makes them the 3rd best SES disaster rescue team in Australia. Fantastic work Majura!
The gun ACT team was made up of the following Majura SES Unit volunteers:
1. Matt Butters (Team Leader)
2. Tracey Foote (Deputy Team Leader)
3. Nathan Henderson-Smith, aka “Hendo”
4. James Dyer
5. Matthew Parsons
6. Kris Cochrane
Congratulations also to the New South Wales (NSW) and South Australian (SA) teams, which came 1st and 2nd respectively!
Majura SES Unit was nominated as the team to represent the ACT after taking out this year’s ACT SES Disaster Rescue Competition, in which Rivers Unit provided judges (but unfortunately wasn’t in a position to compete at the time). Rivers Unit then also put the Majura/ ACT representative team through their paces in a full-on (and confronting!) mass casualty exercise at Rivers Shed in preparation for the NDRC. Taking nothing away from Majura’s outstanding performance, hopefully the assistance that Rivers Unit, and the other ACT SES Units provided in the ACT comp and the special training helped Majura in some way at the national competition.
