Weston Creek Digs Deep

Wednesday, 25 March 2009

On Saturday 21 February, members from the Rivers Volunteer Bushfire and State Emergency Service Brigade conducted a fund-raising bucket drive at the Cooleman Court Shopping Centre, Weston. The collection was to raise money for the Victorian CFA and SES brigades and members who were affected by the Black Saturday Bushfires – donations were also collected for the trust fund established for the family of ACT firefighter David Balfour, who was tragically killed near Marysville.

The residents of Weston Creek really dug deep, and contributed generously to the appeal.

In total just under $7,500 was collected for those affected by the Black Saturday Bushfires.

This money has been donated to the Black Saturday Trust established by Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria; the Victorian State Emergency Service and the Stanley Rural Fire Brigade, who were directly impacted on by the Beechworth Fires, and provided wonderful support to Rivers Brigade while we were deployed there during Task Forces 1 and 2.

A big thank you to all those who contributed to the appeal.

Donations can still be made to support those affected by the Victorian Bushfires, please see details below.
