Rivers Unit Pays Its Respects to a fallen Local Fire-fighter

Wednesday, 25 February 2009

Yesterday, 6 Rivers Unit members participated in a Guard of Honour for the funeral of David Balfour, a paid ACT Firie who died while on duty in Victoria last week, as part of ACT Taskforce 3.

The 6 Rivers volunteers were part of a 40 member strong ACTSES Guard of Honour that lined Justinian St (which is the road that leads in to Woden Cemetery).  As the funeral cortege passed by, the entire ACTSES contingent stood to attention as they silently paid their respects.  The Rivers members who had been on scene at the accident in Victoria felt satisfied that they had been able to  pay their final respects to their ACT Taskforce team mate by participating in the Guard of Honour.

The Guard of Honour made up of SES and RFS volunteers and Parks, Conservation & Lands (PCL) staff, stand to attention as the funeral cortege for David Balfour passes by on its way in to Woden Cemetery
