Last night at about 7pm,
ACT professional
fire-fighter David
Balfour was killed after
apparently being struck
by a falling tree on the
fireground near
Marysville, Victoria.
All fellow Victorian
task force participants
are conscious of the
fact that it could have
just as easily happened
to any of them – on any
of the rotations.
David was part of
taskforce 3 (aka
CHARLIE), which
consisted of
professional fire
fighters, volunteer fire
fighters, seasonal fire
fighters from Parks,
Conservation & Lands
(PCL), ACT SES, ACT
Ambulance Service and
ESA staff. The
taskforce worked
alongside crews from
other states and areas.
David assisted us in
Rivers Unit with some of
our rescue comp team
with its training for
the 2003 ACT Rescue
Competition.
