A Cold, Sleety Storm Job

Friday, 18 June 2010

Yesterday evening, after Canberra was hit by a wind storm, Rivers Unit was called to a ‘tree job’ in the southern suburb of Wanniassa. A tree job turned out to be an understatement – it actually involved two full fallen trees, five properties and powerlines.

The Rivers crew, that included two brand-new probies (not bad for the first day on the job!), were able to deal with one tree in short order. Then we had to wait for ACTEW to disconnect the service line on which the second tree was hanging.

The temperature was just above freezing, a cold, penetrating wind blew and sleet rained sporadically down. The ACTEW arrived about 2 and half hours later. The second tree was rendered safe fairly quickly after the power was disconnected and the small amount of damage on the corner of the roof was fixed.
