Canberra Bushfires - 8th January 2003

The origin of the Canberra bushfire event of 18th January 2003 was
actually a dry lightning storm that occurred in the Brindabella Mountains on 8th
January 2003.
Rivers ES,
as our Unit was then known, first activated on 10th January,
by providing catering support to the bushfiries on Bullock’s Paddock Rd
(just inside Brindabella Rd Gates). On 11th Jan, Rivers ES
was then deployed to provide helicopter support at Bull’s Head Pass,
which lasted until 17th Jan. On the 18th Jan, the
firestorm hit Canberra, after which time Rivers provided both heli
support and storm damage assistance.
