Rivers
Unit has the capability to provide a diverse range of emergency
response to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) community. Our
services range from storm and flood damage mitigation to air, land
and forensic searching to operational support to other emergency
combat agencies in delivering their products and services.

Rivers Unit is operational 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. For 2009 (as at 03 Feb), Rivers Unit
had chalked up 245 hours in operational time alone and most of
that occurred during September, which was an exceptionally busy
month for the Unit.

As an SES Unit, the services that
Rivers Unit provide to the ACT community are free of charge.

Rivers Unit was established on
10th February, 1997 and shares accommodation (known
as Rivers Shed) with Rivers Bushfire Brigade. Our base is
located on the Cotter Rd, 9.3km west of the Streeton Drive/
Cotter Rd intersection, west of Duffy, at the south base of Mt
Stromlo.

Rivers Unit trains in all manner
of rescue and storm response techniques to ensure that we can
provide the right help at the right time, regardless of the
situation. Skill areas include land search, air search, general
rescue, 4WDing, disaster rescue, storm and water damage
response, airbase operations, bushfire awareness, and team
leadership.

Rivers Unit is one of seven
State Emergency Service (SES) Units in the ACT.
